Sangaldan-Reasi Train Trail
Sangaldan-Reasi train has successfully completed its first trial run on the world’s tallest railway bridge. This bridge is known as Chenab Bridge and it is 35 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower. The height of Chenab Bridge is approximately 359 meters and it is 1.3 kilometers long.
This bridge is the world’s tallest bridge built over Chenab River. Its work started in 2002 as a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Line (USBRL) project.
“1st trial train has successfully run from Sangaldan to Reasi, including crossing the Chenab Bridge. All construction works for the USBRL are nearly finished, with tunnel No.1 remaining partially incomplete,” said Vaishnaw.

Since 1997, the USBRL project, stretching 272 km, has seen 209 km completed in stages. By the end of this year, the final 17 km from Reasi to Katra should be finished, linking Kashmir with the rest of India by train. The project has faced challenges due to the area’s geological features, terrain, and weather.
According to railway sources, the first train between Sangaldan and Reasi is expected to start running on June 30 after successfully testing an electric engine on the route.
Dr Jitendra Singh also tweeted, “A significant milestone as an electric engine trial was successfully conducted on the world’s tallest rail bridge. The trial run took place between Sangaldan Railway Station in #Ramban district and #Reasi Railway Station.” and also shared a video in which the train is seen trailing over the bridge.
